The style was founded in Holland in 1917by Theo

van Doesburg and Piet Mondrain to promote their

use of geometric and abstract shapes and colours

based on the idea of universal harmony. Their ideas

extended to architecture and design as well as

painting and Van Doesburg 1n 1919 designed a new

typographic alphabet.
